BMW 501 and 502 (1952-1963).
An intriguing car and an overly curvaceous body.The 501 was born in 1952 with a 6 cylinder engine and a gearbox decoupled from the engine to save legroom.
Unfortunately the limited power of the engine is barely able to propel the car to correct speeds. It was therefore necessary to act quickly and rectify the situation.The solution is found with a V8 engine developed in-house and in 1954 the 501-V8 was born, quickly renamed 502. More luxurious and better equipped it obtained a success of esteem.
A coupe and convertible were offered in 1955. At the end of its career , the ugly lame duck had turned into a refined and appreciated car. Final curtain when the “Neue Classe“ arrives …
